Southern venues
Daufuskie Island is a car‑free barrier island known for its preserved landscapes, historic sites, and small residential community. Access is limited to boat or ferry, typically departing from Hilton Head, which adds a logistical element to wedding planning but also enhances the private, destination feel. The island features a mix of waterfront properties, marshland, beaches, and oak groves, allowing for flexible event setups across multiple locations.
Daufuskie | Hilton Head, GA
Located just off the coast of South Carolina between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Daufuskie Island offers one of the most unique and secluded wedding experiences in the Lowcountry. Accessible only by ferry or private boat, the island immediately feels removed from the mainland, with quiet roads, historic structures, and expansive natural landscapes. Weddings here tend to be more intimate and weekend-focused, with events spread across waterfront homes, open fields, and oak-lined spaces. From a photography perspective, the lack of development and slower pace create a clean, natural setting with soft coastal light throughout the day.
Location 01
Waterfront Lawn and Ruins
Many weddings on Daufuskie take place along the water, with views of the marsh, river, or ocean. These areas provide open backdrops and strong natural light, especially later in the day.
Location 02
The Pier
The island’s marshes and undeveloped shoreline provide a natural, untouched backdrop that feels distinctly different from more built-up coastal venues.
Location 03
The Lighthouse
The Haig Point Lighthouse was built in 1873 and originally served as a range light guiding ships through the Calibogue Sound between Daufuskie and Hilton Head. Today, it has been fully restored and is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the island. The lighthouse is uniquely used as a private guest accommodation, making it one of the few lighthouses in the U.S. where guests can stay overnight. Its waterfront location offers wide views of the sound and strong sunset light, making it a standout feature for both weddings and portraits.
