Questions and Answers

What is your approach on the wedding day?
Intentional, happy, and focused. I dress like a guest and blend into the group I'm in. I have my cameras in my hand at every moment and I am the most invested guest at the wedding, striving to document every moment of your wedding day in the most beautiful and flattering way possible. I take thousands of photos and deliver the best and most meaningful images. Each image is edited for color, light, framing, etc and we deliver a refined and classic portfolio -level gallery for each and every one of our clients.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes, I travel outside of Charleston for most of my weddings! I've photographed weddings in France, Italy, England, Colombia, Jamaica, Antigua, Mexico, the Bahamas, and all over the US. I coordinate all of my own travel and accommodations and I'm very flexible. Travel pricing is generally the cost of the flights, hotel, and rental car.
I always come into town at least one day early to scout and photograph the area and for most destination weddings we include coverage of the rehearsal dinner and a mini-engagement shoot before guests arrive.
Do you have a second shooter?
I love working alone but I find it helpful to have a second shooter during prep photos, and cocktail hour. A second shooter can also be very helpful if we need to fly the drone during the ceremony. Typically if we are doing photos and video together I include a 2nd or 3rd team member.
What does a typical photography package include?
Every package includes Tim Willoughby's sincere effort to photograph every moment of your wedding to the best of his abilities. Each package includes an online gallery and print shop with high resolution archives of all your wedding photos.
Custom packages may also include travel expenses, additional photographers, videographers, prints and enlargements, digital frames, additional days of coverage for multiple events, and custom, heirloom photo albums.
What sets you apart from other photographers?
I'm very fast and easy to work with which means that your photographs won't be a chore! I also have exceptional taste and a critical eye which ensures that you look your best in every image. There are lots of great portfolios and lots of great photographers, but experience is paramount. I've shot plenty of editorials, and working with production teams and sets and models is completely different than photographing a wedding.
A wedding is delicate and emotional for the people involved and it requires tact and enthusiasm and quick thinking. Light and weather are changing constantly and the most important moments are fleeting and have to be anticipated and captured with precision. Knowing exactly what to do and where to be is a skill that takes years of practice and refinement.
How much do you charge?
The short answer is that it depends. Location, team size and your date make are important factors. If you love our work, reach out and we'll put together a custom package that will hopefully meet your needs and budget.
How much should I spend on wedding photography?
Good art is expensive, but not all expensive art is good. I've seen paintings of rainbow colored buffalo for $25k and I'm sure because of the gallery it's in, someone will buy it. There are handbags that cost $15,000. I suppose art is worth whatever people will pay for it. But some forms of art are more meaningful than a brand or an inflated price tag.
The art of wedding photography is a comprehensive presentation of a couple at their best and most optimistic as they follow in the footsteps of their ancestors on the difficult but worthy path of joining their lives together and beginning a new family. For one brief weekend, you have all of the most important people in your life in one place, joined with one purpose: to celebrate and support you in this incredible new endeavor. We all believe in the beauty and sanctity of your mission. A bad wedding photograph can make us deeply uncomfortable. A bad wedding video, even more-so. A good one, reminds us of who we were and why we fell in love in the first place.
Our intention is to put together a collection of art work for you that intimately and beautifully immerses the viewer in the most important moments of your life and lets you relive your best weekend over and over again.
I photograph every moment of the wedding day like it's only happening once. I've worked very hard for each of my hundreds of clients over the past 18 years to ensure that after the dust settles from the craziness of the wedding, that they have something beautiful to keep and to pass down to their kids and a way to re-experience it all. Packages are flexible and working with me is easy. I will coordinate with you and your planner throughout your engagement to develop the perfect timeline and approach for your wedding day.
