charleston venues
Established in 1681, Boone Hall Plantation is one of the oldest working plantations in the United States. The property spans more than 700 acres and features the famous Avenue of Oaks, a dramatic entrance lined with massive live oak trees that were planted in the 1700s. In addition to the historic plantation house, the venue includes the waterfront Cotton Dock event space along Horlbeck Creek and large open lawns that can accommodate tented receptions and ceremonies of many sizes while still maintaining the classic Charleston plantation setting.
Boone Hall and The Cotton Dock | CHARLESTON SC
Boone Hall Plantation is one of the most recognizable wedding venues in the Charleston area, best known for its legendary Avenue of Oaks and expansive Lowcountry landscape. Located just outside downtown in Mount Pleasant, the property combines historic Southern architecture with sweeping open fields, moss‑covered live oaks, and waterfront views along Horlbeck Creek. The mile‑long oak avenue creates one of the most dramatic entrances of any Charleston venue and is often used for ceremonies, portraits, and unforgettable processional moments. Throughout the grounds, the plantation house, cotton dock, and surrounding marshland provide a wide variety of settings for portraits, allowing the wedding day to move naturally between shaded oak groves, classic historic architecture, and golden sunset light across the water.
Location 01
The Oak Row
The Avenue of Oaks is Boone Hall’s most iconic feature—a dramatic entrance lined with massive live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Planted in the 1700s, the long canopy of trees creates filtered light throughout the day and a striking sense of scale that works beautifully for ceremonies, processional moments, and wide portrait compositions.
Location 02
The Gardens and Front Entry
Boone Hall’s gardens and landscaped areas offer smaller, quieter portrait locations away from the main event spaces. Seasonal flowers, brick pathways, and layered greenery provide soft textures and color that work well for family portraits and intimate couple photos.
Location 03
The Plantation House
The white colonial‑revival main house sits at the center of the property and provides a classic architectural backdrop for portraits. The broad lawn, symmetrical columns, and surrounding oak trees create clean lines and timeless Charleston imagery that pairs well with more natural portrait locations around the estate.
Location 04
The Barn
The rustic barn offers a more relaxed setting within Boone Hall’s historic grounds. Weathered wood, large open doors, and the surrounding fields create a natural Lowcountry backdrop that photographs well in both soft daylight and evening reception lighting.
Location 05
Golden Hour by the Marsh
Along the edges of the property, the marsh views overlooking Horlbeck Creek offer one of the best sunset vantage points at Boone Hall. The open landscape allows the sky to fill with color in the evening, while the grasses and tidal water create a distinctly Lowcountry setting for relaxed portraits at the end of the day
Location 06
The Cotton Dock
The Cotton Dock sits along the water at Boone Hall and is one of the most popular reception locations on the property. The long wooden structure overlooks Horlbeck Creek and the surrounding marsh, creating beautiful reflections and open sky views. As evening approaches, the soft coastal light across the water makes this area especially strong for sunset portraits and reception atmosphere photos.
