New Studio

Wow. That email blast (I promise to do that as rarely as possible) was really helpful in getting the word out. We had 500 new visits to the blog yesterday alone! Thanks so much to you guys who commented. It wasn't just my mom making up different names and comments, I promise. Also, thanks to everyone who clicked the like button for facebook. That's super helpful.

We're still ironing out a few problems with the blog at the moment. One thing we've had requests for is an RSS feed. Probably a good idea. Another thing a few people pointed out to me is that the images aren't showing up quite clear enough on the blog. So, we're working on that. For some reason, going from hard drive to internet always screws things up but hopefully we'll get it squared away soon.

Anyways, since this blog is so easy to use, I'm going to post a quick couple images of the new studio I'm renovating. It's 2 doors down, and 3 times the size of the old space. Sure, it doesn't have any electricity, heating, plumbing, windows or air but we'll get to that. I spent yesterday pulling down dry wall to expose some of the old-as-dirt brick and I also pulled down the really ugly boards that were attached to the rafters. There was literally 3-4 inches of dust in places so today I'm tackling the impossible job of cleaning. I rented a shop vac but it's a POS. Those of you who went to Catholic grade school know what that acronym is.

So, at this point, I'm just trying to get it clean and useable while figuring out how to set it up and decorate. I would love any input out there about a great way to utilize this space. It has a ton of potential! Don't be shy. I need help here...

PS: I'm very sorry to put these ugly dirty photos on top of all those beautiful ones from yesterday but it had to be done. Most of them were taken on my handy dandy iPhone so don't judge me on clarity this time people. (You know who you are)

A few images from 2010…

2010 was our busiest year yet! Thanks to every one of my clients! Thanks to every florist, coordinator, musician and every other vendor that made the weddings I've attended so great this year. Thanks be to God we didn't have any problems this year and we had nice weather for at least half of the weddings ;) Thanks to my amazing wife who brought Benjamin into the world this year. And thanks to all of you who have checked in here in-spite of the fact that I NEVER post :( and thanks to anyone who has referred me! Lastly, thanks to me because I am awesome! Ha. That's a joke although Sarah probably isn't laughing.

This year was definitely our busiest yet and not just because we had more weddings and engagement shoots than ever before but also because we re-located to Charleston, rented and renovated a studio, bought a house, and had another baby. Any one of those things alone might have taken a lesser man to the brink of insanity. But, everything has gone well and I'm not insane. No. I'm not.

Speaking of insane, 2011 is going to be. I already have more weddings booked than I shot last year and they're still coming in. I have a little more availability especially in July, August, and November so please spread the word to anyone you know who is tying the not. We love word of mouth!

Regarding blogging, I have been working on a new blog over the past few weeks with my good friend Dave and his amazingly talented designer (their link is at the bottom of the blog: Do Good Works) It's way better. I've got a great contact form right here on the blog, more info about timwill photography including some pricing information and frequently asked questions and I've got a section that will be growing about local vendors who I've worked with and who I'd recommend in the future. Please do check them out! The greatest feature of the new blog, however, is postability. What, you might ask, is postability? Well, before when I wanted to make a post I had to jump through 15 different hoops to get images online. This new blog is as easy to use as the facebook uploader so hopefully I'll be able to post much more frequently. Aside from my 100 other new years resolutions, I'm going to be trying really hard to do 2 posts a week. The more comments I get and people I have clicking the 'Like' button for facebook (there's one after each post), the more fuel I'll have for posting. I've got a lot of work to do, a lot of images to post, and a lot of news to write about so hopefully I'll be back on with another post in a couple days! Thank you all so much for reading! Best Wishes, Tim Willoughby PS: The images below are in now way a 'Best of 2010' or anything. Just some images from recent weddings that I wanted to get up on the blog. Every wedding has a hundred great images to post but I'm so behind at this point that I'm not sure I'll get them all out there. So, here are a few for now.

Benjamin Michael Willoughby

We're probably just going to call him Ben. Or maybe not. Sarah corrects me every time I say Ben so maybe that won't happen. Sarah, my wonderful wife, really amazed me this time with Willoughby 2.0

I didn't think I could love number dos as much as Dom but I really do. He's completely perfect. Ears, nose, eyes, short brown hair. And a huge cleft in his chin.

And as soon as they make a raw plugin for the brand new Nikon D3100 I will put up a ton of photos! In the meantime, you guys are stuck waiting. I've got one tiny black and white for you guys for now and the other photos are of Sarah a few hours before we went to the hospital and Dominic watching and stealing the spotlight.

August Wedding Photographer - Barry & Holly - Augusta, GA

This beautiful southern wedding held in Augusta, Georgia was a great representation of southern hospitality and charm. The ceremony was held downtown Augusta at Holy Trinity and the reception was at a beautiful retired church called Sacred Heart that now serves as a historic attraction/museum. The amazing Clyde Farr designed and coordinated the event and I'm pretty confident all 500 guests were blown away by the decor. We only had a few minutes (in the dark) for photography after the wedding so we did a day after session at the near by Redcliffe Plantation. Thanks so much to Holly and family for having me as your wedding photographer

Charleston Wedding Photographer – Nicole & Josh – Charleston, SC

Nicole and Josh were married earlier this year in a friends house downtown.Another way to say that is; Nicole and Josh had one of the sweetest weddings in the courtyard of one of the biggest prettiest homes in Historic Downtown Charleston. Their wedding reception (at Fulton Five restaurant where Josh is the chef) was so gorgeous and every last detail was designed by Nicole herself. It was a true pleasure being a part of such a warm, intimate event and wedding photography in Charleston is always a ton-of-fun. Best Wishes to you both!

Dom's first birthday! (actually, it was almost two months ago!)

We don't have enough photos of this kid. He's so huge and cute. BTW, we've given him at least five haircuts at this point (not that it shows...)For those of you with kids; Dom just started walking and he's hilarious. He consciously keeps his arms down like a real human! Ha. For those of you without kids: I'm sure you don't care about that story or this post.... You just wait until it's your turn.

Tyler & Kara - Kiawah Island Wedding Photographer

I just shot an amazing wedding. April 10th, 2010 Kiawah Island, South CarolinaThe wedding and reception were both at Kiawah Island and as a Kaiwah Island Wedding Photographer I've never seen a more beautiful ceremony and reception. A Charleston Bride organized everything and Kara did such an incredible job with designing everything. Sorry for posting so many images but this wedding was too gorgeous to limit to a couple of photos... Bask in the sunlight of Kara's amazing wedding.

Savannah Spring Fashion

Happy Monday. I did a fashion shoot for Savannah Magazine a little while back and since the issue has hit the stands, I'm free to post a couple of the photographs for you guys. This isn't the normal Charleston wedding photography that I usually post but it's fun and I thought it would be good to share it.They used this first image for the cover of the magazine!

Post bombardment. And new albums

New albums are in! And they are awesome. We now have full bleed covers, smaller gutters between spreads, true lay-flat openings, and embossing of any size, font, style, etc for your albums.PS: All of these images were taken with the iPhone. Turns out there's not much of a difference....

Dom's 8 months. ish

Everytime I tell people how old Dom is I get corrected because I'm always about a month off. I can't keep up. He just started crawling this week and he's a handful. It's not really crawling because he doesn't use his legs....he just drags himself along by his arms. Anyways, picking him up is impossible because he can't stop trying to grab everything that's NOT in reach and putting him down's out of the question because he drags himself towards the computer cables. One thing that's kinda funny though for those of you who have kids (if you don't have kids you'll just think I'm lame for even writing this) is that he loves our dog but she's terrified of him. So, in our tiny house, she doesn't really have anywhere to hide so dom drags himself around the house like a crazy injured soldier following her and laughing/cackling the whole way. It's hilarious. I should have a video but I just don't. Maybe I'll get Sarah on that. So, heres a shot of him from last week. ish. He'll grow into his nose one day...

Ashlee continued....

Ashlee is one of our brides who was kind enough to let us blog her before her wedding. She's getting married in Augusta in May so check back later on.I'm sure the wedding photography will be just as awesome as these bridal portraits. All of these photos were taken at the Old Sheldon Church outside of Beufort South Carolina.

new post on the way...

but in the meantime, here's a teaser!I've got lots to post but I've been busy with the spring season, the new studio, and big news in the family! I'll get everyone up to speed soon. Thanks for checking in. In the meantime, here's an image or two from a recent session. I've got tons of sessions, weddings, and even a magazine cover or two to post so keep checking in.

Giving back

I've wanted to be a missionary since high school. Half way through college I took a year off and worked with a volunteer group in Costa Rica. I spent 7 months in 3 different locations: the jungle in Limon, a farm village in Nicoya, and a mountain town called San Ramon. Unfortunately, the group that I was with wasn't really set up for volunteers and I kind of felt like dead weight most of the time. I came back to the states with my eyes opened but I don't know if my time there was helpful for anyone but myself. Anyways, that was years ago and I haven't really done anything like it since. It would be incredible to be able to give a few weeks a year and do some photography for some of these groups; maybe help promote their causes. That will take some serious planning though with weddings most weekends, a new studio, and a wife and kid. The bottom line is (and congrats if you're still reading) there are some groups out there that are more organized and dedicated than I can be and I think it would be a great idea to at least give them some financial support even if I can't donate tons of time right now.
10%. That's the percentage we're going to be donating from every wedding, portrait session, and print sale. Right now we have 6 different organizations that we're going to be working with and we're going to let our clients choose which group their 10% goes to. I'm really excited because it's a way for each one of our clients to give back just by using our services. Here are the organizations:
Operation Smile More than 200,000 children are born with a severe cleft condition each year — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life. That's where we come in. Since 1982, Operation Smile  — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided free surgeries to children in more than 50 countries, healing their smiles and bringing hope for a better future.
Charity Water Almost a billion people on the planet don't have access to clean drinking water. That's one in eight of us. charity:water is a non-profit organzation bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of your donation will directly fund freshwater projects in developing nations. Each $20 can give one person clean, safe drinking water for 20 years.
CNEWA Founded in 1926 by Pope Pius XI, Catholic Near East Welfare Association's (CNEWA) mandate is: to support the pastoral mission and institutions of the Eastern Catholic churches; to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need without regard to nationality or creed; to promote Christian unity and inter-religious understanding and collaboration; and to educate people in the West about the history, cultures, peoples and churches of the East. CNEWA does not have inflexible priorities - they are set based upon time, place and urgency of need. We do not compete; if other agencies are doing good work, we leave it to them. CNEWA addresses those needs that would otherwise "fall through the cracks," enabling the power of love to reach men, women and children in need
Partners in Health Partners In Health is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Boston, Massachusetts, and active in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, Russia, and the United States. Through service, training, advocacy, and research, and by establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations, PIH strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.
Acumen Fund Acumen Fund is a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. My big fat baby. Oh ...and Charleston!

Hello hello hello. Big day today in timwill blogland. Not only did I make another post. But I have one from each of the basic food groups. Family session, portrait session, wedding, and personal. I hate to make excuses for my lack of blogging but I'm going to. Here it is: Fatherhood + Move to Charleston + Incredible new studio = BUSY.Yes, timwill photography has relocated to Charleston SC. For any of you in Augusta, don't worry; I'm back all the time and there is no change in service or travel fees. This move doesn't affect any of my current clients at all. But I have a feeling this will affect my future business. This town is awesome! And the new studio is so awesome. HA. But it seriously is. As soon as I get a sign up and a few prints I'll take some shots and do a gigantic post. Before and after pics, detail shots, the whole shebang. That's for another time though. I think I've blogged enough to last me for a few days. Thanks for checking in, everyone.PS: the beautiful woman in the photos below is my wife. Yes, I am a lucky s.o.b.
